Zone restrictions

Please be advised that the use of zones B1, B2, C, and D may be immediately restricted to protect visitor safety due to volcanic activity and wind direction. Pay close attention to the broadcasts and act in accordance with the crater monitor’s instructions.

●Zone A

Access to this area is always prohibited.

●Zone B1 (Around the crater)

This zone for crater viewing has a view of the old crater group.

●Zone B2 (Around the crater)

The crater can be viewed from this zone.

●Zone C (The plaza area)

The crater is not visible, but visitors can enjoy magnificent views of the area around the crater, including the outer wall of Mt. Naka.

●Zone D (Observation area)

The crater is not visible, but visitors can enjoy magnificent views of Kusasenri, Mr. Kijima, Mt. Eboshi, and other sites.

Entry into areas other than Zones B1, B2, C, and D are prohibited.

Warning lights were installed in April 2007 as a safety measure to provide information on the density of the volcanic gases using color codes.
We also have announcements in English, Korean, and Chinese for the many foreign tourists.
